Janis Ahern was born Janis Reno in Upstate New York. She graduated with a BA from Hartwick College with 2 Majors - English & Theatre. Janis toured a year as a singer with the Miss NY State USO troupe. She spent a summer at the Dorset Theatre Festival in Dorset, Vermont as an apprentice.
